tonite I’m playing the first solo performance of my life. I’ve tried various set ups, including loopmakers, distortion, overdrives, extensive analogue echo machines and more.
until yesterday I thought I had it all figured out and was ready to go live with an elaborate solo show to impress people.
after I recorded the whole show late last night (a dressrehearsal of sorts) I found it all dumb and amateurish and wannabe blabla.
so I got depressed. watched youtube videos of tim burton for an hour. then, out of frustration, played some of the music using only upright bass and voice, no technology of any kind. I loved it, listened back to it, still loved it. better energy, more artistic freedom in the performance and just an overall great feeling.
so I decided to get rid of all the technology clutter. now, for the first time in my life it’s going to be only me and my bass on stage.
ah, the good life after all, acoustic is king. simplicity rocks and to eliminate all the unnesscessary bs rules.

all sounds are made on the bass and looped instantly, then I play the groove and sing…fun stuff…

here is the Horse Dark Lady she’s uncomfortable when people speak to hear, so she moved out of town to live in stables amongst horses, the only place where she feels safe from the talk talk talk…

Talking to Patrick Gruban, who brought the Nerd Nite to Munich, I again had the urge to post this little story of a man who’s only world is books and listeners. not that Patrick is one of those, not at all, but the connection to the nerd nite lit the spark.
The Xpert came to me (since I gave up the resistance to all the ghouls from my subconscious, they write themselves into my performances) a long time ago. taking current events into account, I guess now’s the right time for him to finally see the light.

the new performance I’m working on is called “music of ghouls“.
when I write music all kinds of ghouls and sceletons I have in my closet pop up in my head and in my dreams, demanding their 15 minutes of fame.
I tried to keep them at a safe distance all my life, but not long ago I decided to let them have their way. come on up, you freaks! and boy, did they start to haunt me. every night a new one creeps up my spine to whisper their story in my ear.
now, on january 30th I’m going to present the first bunch of them to a live audience at ursula repüblik in munich. there will be the underage widow who was also my first girlfriend, the horse dark lady who can’t stand when someone speaks to her and who is only comfortable amongst horses, the expert who has read all books ever written, the girl who shot her ex because he didn’t wait for her while she was gone for 5 years, and the ugly chiwauwau which has been haunting me ever since my 4th birthday.
the circus of the freaks in my head will be on display to give you the creeps.
plus, I will be performing on a platform built exclusively for my fellow psychos to expose myself and them just a bit more to raise the uncomfortable-level. (see pic above)
